LOTRO is a fun MMORPG for the casual RPG player or the Tolkien fan. The world has plenty of content with many skirmishes to be had, dungeons to explore and raids to wage or defend against. Unfortunately, a lot of this content requires either spending real money or an absurd amount of time to unlock.

The quests of the game and the environments they take place in are visually engaging - picturesque and sweeping or dark and creepy, but always atmospheric.

Hardcore gamers or those looking for a game with challenging end game content, however, should look elsewhere.

EVE Online is a legendary space simulation MMO that first launched in 2003. The game puts players in a compelling visual game world that's all about conquering space for your race, corporation and faction. With almost two decades worth of content and updates, EVE Online offers PvE and PvP that's unique in the genre, where both solo players and large guilds can carve our their own fun and history through huge battles where everything is at stake, in addition to exploration, economy, crafting and more. While it's an intricately complex game to get into for new players, the time investment pays off in the long run if you have an end goal in mind. The game is free to play and its microtransactions aren't that intrusive. Overall, it's still a household MMO title and worth playing even today.

➔ Main points:

  • Deep and immersive space sandbox simulator
  • Offers plenty of content for all types of players
  • Can be enjoyed for free without pay walls
  • Graphics are decent for a 17 year old game

Tree of Savior is a Korean isometric MMORPG from IMC Games that wears its old-school sensibilities—and its Ragnarok Online heritage—on an embroidered sleeve.
The first thing that hits you is the look: painterly backdrops, chibi-but-detailed character sprites, and particle effects that bloom like magic confetti.
The second thing is the class system. You don’t just pick a role; you stitch one together from multiple class advancements, mixing archetypes (Wizard, Swordsman, Archer, Cleric, Scout) with a smorgasbord of subclasses to create a build that’s either brilliantly synergized… or hilariously cursed. That freedom is the game’s identity: it’s a sandbox for build-tinkerers.

Combat is quick and flashy—an action-oriented click/keyboard/controller affair where positioning, cooldowns, and mob herding matter. The PvE loop leans hard into grinding, with quest hubs, instanced dungeons, raids, challenge modes, and field farming that feels cozy when you’re in the groove. Gear progression, attributes, enchants, and ichors layer on long-term goals, while the soundtrack—light, whimsical, and nostalgic—keeps the mood buoyant.

It’s not all cotton-candy clouds. Tree of Savior has historically struggled with a clunky UI, uneven onboarding, and performance hiccups during busy scenes. Some systems are opaque until you live in them, and the meta can feel like a moving target. Monetization and event cadence have waxed and waned over the years, and the population varies by region and season.

Still, when Tree of Savior clicks, it really clicks. It’s that rare MMO where experimentation is the point, where you load into a sunny field, turn monsters into fireworks, and tweak your build for “just one more” percent. If you crave expressive character building, cozy mob mowing, and throwback vibes with modern sparkle, this quirky canopy of a game is worth climbing.

➔ Main points:

  • Expressive class building: combine multiple advancements to craft synergistic, weird, or wonderfully overpowered builds.
  • Flashy action combat: isometric brawling with big pulls, big AOEs, and crunchy visual feedback.
  • Layered progression systems: attributes, ichors, set effects, and enchants drive long-term goals.
  • Chill grind-friendly zones: open fields, challenge modes, and dungeons feed that “one more run” itch.
  • Co-op focused endgame: raids, bosses, and party synergies reward coordination and smart builds.
  • Nostalgic audiovisual charm: whimsical soundtrack and painterly maps sell the fantasy beautifully.

Aion is a truly massive MMORPG in terms of size as well as scope. This formerly pay-to-play game attempts to reinvent the usual MMORPG experience through its original gameplay which allows the player to explore its world in an interesting new way.

The game offers players a chance to take a side in the conflict between two opposing races, the Asmodians and the Elyos. There is a classic struggle of good (Elyos) over evil (the Asmodians) as the races are in essence angels and devils.

The game earns its place among MMO juggernauts thanks to its great graphics and unique flight system.

➔ Main points:

  • 2009 MMO-RPG
  • Unique Flight Mechanics
  • Lots of Classes
  • Fun Combo System
  • Great looking environments.

A fun to play game with lively graphics, Big Farm comes in as a good competitor to the run of the mill farming games. Based on the concept of balancing your resources and making your farm blossom, the game offers a number of avenues which you can take up to maximize your profits. Crops can be grown and harvested and animals can be raised while using fertilizers and other boosters.

Big Farm also offers the players to enjoy a few multiplayer game modes in which they can apply their expertise and achieve the objectives before their rivals to win. They can also play together as a team and expand their farms the best they can. Big Farm is very simple to play on one hand, and offers unique building upgrades on the other, making it a really fun game to play.

➔ Main points:

  • A farming game with colorful graphics.
  • Engaging multiplayer element.
  • Fun gameplay.
  • Easily understandable objectives.
  • Graphic details could have been better.

Based on famed table top game Champions, Champions Online is a recently free-to-play MMORPG created by City of Heroes developer Cryptic Studios. Champions online is a comic book lover’s ideal virtual world. While it has its issues, mostly related to graphics, playing through Champions is still an enjoyable romp filled with a plethora of well executed ideas. The game creates a rich yet traditional MMO experience, however much of the game’s systems and classes are locked behind a subscription-based paywall.

The combat feels, for the most part, very traditional. It’s a variation of the classic tab targeting system we’ve come to love, and expect from games like World of Warcraft and Star Wars: The Old Republic. What differentiates combat the most is the ability to enter combat with a unique ability called a travel power. Travel powers are pretty much exactly as the sound, superpowers that allow for different methods of travel. There are a plethora of travel powers to choose from, each compliments a certain class type, however you can choose whichever you are most fond of.

➔ Main points:

  • 2009 MMORPG
  • Superhero Themed
  • Unique Nemesis System
  • Plethora of Customization options

Conquer Online sets itself apart early from its MMORPG brethren (including its own incredibly similar titles) by offering a large range of character classes to play, though other than choosing the gender there isn't much other customisation available. Still, whether you pick the graceful Water Taoist or the burly Warrior, TQ Online will set you up with a unique set of specialties and characteristics. And, thanks to the Reborn feature, which allows you to pick a new class with better attributes once you hit level 120, you'll get plenty of opportunity to explore all of them.

PvP is where the game really excels, offering a load of modes, challenges and activities for you to battle together or against your fellow players. Most notable is the violent PK Mode, where you can gain experience and gold by slaughtering any player in sight, while also earning yourself a reputation that might see you hunted down by bounty hunters.

Conquer Online's graphics are a let down, blocky, outdated, and made worse by an often cluttered user interface. Another sore point is the cash shop, which allows paying players to get a huge advantage with otherwise unattainable rare items and bonuses. However, a large community of non-paying players helps even this out, and makes the game an overall positive experience for lovers of PvP combat.

Conqueror's Blade is hybrid blend of medieval MMO gameplay and deep tactical warfare, which places your characters in kingdoms that you'll represent in this feudal age. You'll play as a Warlord, utilizing a chosen class inspired from both Eastern and Western cultures. In its PvE, you'll level up your class, gaining skills and recruiting units for the looming battles ahead. In PvP, expect fun 15 versus 15 siege battles where you and other Warlords fight for regional supremacy that results in better crafting yields, trading opportunities and fame. Conqueror's Blade is a free and unique MMO, but not one without its flaws.

➔ Main points:

  • Free to play medieval tactical MMO
  • Good choice of classes that makes combat feel unique
  • Fast matchmaking ensures no downtime
  • Siege battles offers exciting and competitive gameplay

Dark Era is a free RPG game released by Game123 which involves the time-space concept in its storyline for the player to fight against the armies of a Dark Emperor. The game majorly focuses on guiding the players in their conquest against the Dark power which the automated gameplay of Dark Era clearly shows.

Even though the rather well-designed environment and competitive graphics of Dark Era are a positive, it is a very small consolation for the lack of action and involvement of the player. Yes, there are certain character upgrades during the course of the game and the introduction of beasts and mounts does spice things up a little bit, but not nearly enough to make up for the disappointment of the automated character movement and decision making.

➔ Main points:

  • A number of classes to choose your characters from.
  • Good environmental setting and commendable graphics.
  • Not enough player involvement.
